Discovery Foods is a leading manufacturer of innovative and healthy frozen foods, with over 50 years of combined experience in premium branded frozen foods. Our products range from Asian appetizers and entrées to quick and convenient steamed organic vegetables.
Originally founded by Clarence Mou and family in 1986, Discovery Foods started with Potstickers under the Ling Ling brand name. The line was extended to include egg rolls, spring rolls and shu mai.
In 2006, VIP Foods and Discovery Foods were purchased by the San Francisco private equity firm of Freidman, Fleisher & Lowe (FF&L) and merged under Discovery Foods.
Today, Discovery Foods sells Ling Ling Asian appetizers, Tai Pei Asian entrées and appetizers, and VIP frozen vegetables, fruit, smoothies and pastry shells.
Ling Ling potstickers were created in 1986 by Clarence Mou and family, founders of Discovery Foods. Their entrepreneurial drive and passion for food has made Ling Ling the number one brand of fresh-frozen potstickers in the United States today.
Clarence and his family emigrated from Taipei, Taiwan to settle in South San Francisco in 1972. As with many immigrants, the restaurant business provided an opportunity to achieve the American dream.
In the early 1980s, the Mou Family began selling their handmade potstickers at their Countrywood Dim Sum restaurant in Walnut Creek, California. When customers began asking for larger quantities of potstickers to cook at home, Clarence saw an emerging niche market — fresh, tasty potstickers for everyday meals. While attending UC Berkeley, Clarence developed a business plan, and in 1986, Discovery Foods was born.
Clarence and his hard-working team built the business by expanding its product line to include egg rolls, spring rolls and shu mai. The products are sold in warehouse club stores and supermarket chains.
Founded in 1967 as an innovative frozen vegetable and fruit packer, VIP Foods is a leading supplier to major retailers throughout the United States. We have over 40 years of experience in Individually Quick Frozen (IQF) technology. We offer over 150 products, including frozen vegetables, vegetable blends, fruit, potatoes, pie shells, fruit smoothies and a full line of steamable vegetables and vegetable blends. As a small company, we are dedicated to offering the highest quality products and service available.
Tai Pei frozen Asian entrĂ©es were introduced by VIP Foods in 1996. Originally called Tai Pan®, these frozen entrĂ©es are packed in a unique Chinese style take-out carton. The first variety launched was Sweet & Sour Chicken. Today, we offer over 15 varieties in the single serve, take-out containers and have added potstickers, egg rolls and wonton bites to the line. In addition, Tai Pei has been expanded to a full line of Stir-Fry Creations - easy, skillet meals for two that are ready in about 10 minutes.
